Classroom Management

There are many different aspects of Classroom management. Within this blog my classroom management plan will emphasize five main sections. The sections being: My personal Statement of Beliefs, the physical space of the the classroom, instructional management, and finally discipline and accountability. All five sections hold a very important portion of the classroom management plan. This is because each section when combined with the others allows for a safe classroom environment in which students can succeed.

In my statement of beliefs I note I refuse to be a podium teacher, I plan on moving around the room to make sure the students are awake and actively involved in the lesson.
Physical Space

Instructional Management

This section is made up of two subsections: non-verbal instructional management and verbal instructional management. Non-verbal instructional management are the silent routines that students should learn in the beginning of the class. For example as the bell rings the students should walk into class, sit down, and take out their homework.

Where as verbal instructional management is direct instruction from the teacher. This can be seen in either whole class or small group discussion, as well as the teachers use of Socratic method.

Discipline and Accountability

When examining state and district laws and rules only much responsibility falls onto the teacher. However it is the teachers responsibility to enforce the rules that schools puts into action. However there are some behaviors that unacceptable, for instance bullying.

Student Motivation

Student motivation is one of the biggest aspects of classroom management. As a teacher walks into the class in the first week, the first thing the teacher must do is to state his or her high expectations. The teacher must be upfront, saying that although we will have fun in the class you will work hard.
On top of having high expectations of your students, a teacher should also work hard in showing his or her students that they are interested in their hobbies; going to sporting events, drama productions, and other events can achieve this goal.
